Caterpillar Bets Long-Term With Proposed Mining Takeover

Caterpillar's proposed acquisition of China's ERA Mining Machinery is the latest major play the US firm as it seeks to increase its exposure to dynamic markets in Asia Pacific and strengthen its presence in the fast growing mining sector. These two key objectives underpin Caterpillar's long-term growth strategy, with the appointment of CEO Doug Oberhelman in July 2010 heralding a particularly active period of expansion - particularly inorganic growth.
