Helios Confirms Plan To Sell MultiLinks, But No Timeline Yet

Pan-African tower sharing company Helios Towers intends to sell Nigeria-based CDMA operator MultiLinks in order to avoid competing directly with some its clients in the country, according to Helios' group CEO, Charles Green. This confirms CFW's view that Helios Towers will divest the CDMA operator that its Nigerian unit, Helios Towers Nigeria (HTN) bought from South African incumbent Telkom SA for US$10mn in June 2011 (see our online service, June 29 2011, 'Telkom Agrees To Sell MultiLinks To Helios Towers, But Many Questions Remain Unanswered'). Although details of the planned sale are yet to be revealed, we retain our view that existing players in the CDMA market are best placed to buy the operator.
