Slow Going For China-ASEAN PE Fund

The China-ASEAN Investment Cooperation Fund (CAF), a US$1bn private equity fund set up by China with the members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), has just made its fourth investment since its establishment in late 2010, bringing total investment to just a fraction of CAF's total available funds. CFW believes that this lack of investment by CAF is not due to a lack of opportunities or reluctance from China to invest, but a lack of institutional capacity and political cohesiveness to filter investments into actual projects on the ground in ASEAN.
