Sri Lanka Telecom Eyes SunTel for Enterprise Customers, Rural Wireless Footprint

Debt-laden alternative fixed-line operator SunTel could be acquired by incumbent Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) for US$200mn if the latest negotiations to sell the ailing company conclude successfully. SunTel, which operates CDMA-based wireless local loop (WLL) networks in key underserved areas of the country, has seen customers move away to lower-cost, more flexible mobile telephone services and urgently needs additional investment. CFW believes SLT would be most interested in acquiring SunTel's enterprise customer base.
