Kurdish Regional Government Seeks To Captivate Foreign Interest For Iraq IPPs

In spite of recent setbacks with the central government's plans to increase diesel-powered capacity, the Kurdish regional government (KRG) is proceeding with the launch of a large scale IPP programme (see BMI's Industry News - Power Contracts Fall Apart, 10 August 2011). In fact, the debacle with the diesel contracts may serve to KRG's advantage. IPP concessions are eagerly awaited and it seems that the central government is some time away from tenders. Kurdistan enjoys sufficient autonomy enabling it to launch its own tenders and sufficient stability and security to attract interest.
