LivingSocial Plays Catch-Up With Asian Acquisitions
August 2011 | Corporate Financing AnalysisAlthough US-based online coupon firm LivingSocial has largely lagged behind main rival Groupon in terms of presence across the world, it has upped the level of competition by acquiring several online coupon companies in Asia in the last few months to strengthen its footprint in the region. The latest purchase, of Ticket Monster, sees the company foray into South Korea and we expect LivingSocial to step up its acquisition efforts, which is one of the quickest ways to gain market share in a particular market. The growing number of acquisitions is also a strong signal that further consolidation in the industry would be expected, which is unsurprising given the low barriers to entry.
