PLDT To Overcome Growing Hurdles
July 2011 | Corporate Financing AnalysisThe acquisition of 55.15% stake in third-ranked mobile operator Digital Telecommunications Philippines (Digitel) by the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT) is stuck in a limbo after the deal was announced in end-March. Both parties have agreed to extend the closing date of the transaction by one month to July 30 in order to overcome the final hurdle in the form of the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC). However, PLDT has attracted another investigation due to its ownership structure, which has a wider implication on the country's business environment.
