Three Consortiums Named Preferred Bidders For Sur IPP

Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) has started the final negotiations for the selection of successful bidder among the three groups shortlisted for a licence to build the country's largest greenfield power plant (according to the Oman Daily Observer). The Independent Power Project (IPP), which consists of a minimum 1,500MW gas-plant to be build at Sur in the Sharqiya region, is part of Oman's plan to meet growing demand for electricity and has received substantial attention from international developers. However, we note that the competitive process for the IPP has lately suffered some delays in the wake of the recent cabinet reshuffle and the reorganisation of the Tender Board.
