New Electricity Sector Privitisations Could Yet Again Entice European Utilities
June 2011 | Corporate Financing AnalysisThe Albanian government has drafted a law to allow for the privatisation of some power generation assets. The sale will be a small one in terms of the capacity on offer and we believe it will attract regional, and possibly, European players, given the precedent set by previous tenders. We believe that ultimately the government is hoping that a private partner will also invest private capital into the assets, something that the state-owned utility KESH does not have the financial ability to do at the moment.
