VW Well Placed To Facilitate MAN-Scania Merger

Germany's Volkswagen (VW) has increased its ownership in compatriot MAN from 29.9% to 30.47% as well as made a mandatory offer for its takeover as it eyes the merger of MAN and Swedish truck maker Scania. The move is partly aimed at cost reduction and consolidating VW's hold in the commercial vehicle segment. A three-way alliance, however, could challenge the current dominance of Daimler and Volvo in the global truck segment.
