Visafone Acquisition Of Multilinks Changes Dynamics On CDMA Market

Visafone, Nigeria's biggest CDMA operator by subscribers, on April 1 2011 agreed to buy Telkom South Africa's Multilinks Nigeria for US$52mn. Telkom South Africa will maintain a presence in the Nigerian telecoms market through its fixed line units and 6,673km fibre optic backbone, 2,034km of which is shared with MTN Nigeria and Globacom. BMI believes the deal is likely to get regulatory approval and will have a significant impact on Nigeria's CDMA market when completed.
