Despite being in its infancy the microfinance sector has been enjoying rapid growth over recent years, but that could all be about to change. Indeed, of late the sector has come under increased scrutiny. Microfinance institutions (MFIs) have been charged by some quarters with encouraging over-indebtedness through multi-loans and of losing sight of their original purpose: to provide financing to the poor.
